Industrial Processing Facility Structural Steel Detailing
High-precision 3D Tekla detailing, fabrication shop drawings, and CNC data extraction for a 1,800-ton industrial steel structure.

Complex Constructability & Coordination Obstacles
The facility required heavy industrial framing, including complex pipe racks, multi-tier equipment support platforms, heavy moment connections, and steep-angle bracing. The fabrication shop required direct NC1 CNC machine feed to meet an aggressive fabrication window.
Key Engineering Responsibilities
- Complete 3D Structural Steel Modeling in Trimble Tekla Structures
- Connection detailing for high-shear and moment-resistant joints
- Single-part and multi-member assembly fabrication drawings
- DSTV CNC (.NC1) file generation and automated Bill of Materials
Our Technical Engineering Approach
Our steel detailing specialists modeled the complete structural frame with millimeter accuracy. Every gusset plate, weld symbol, bolt diameter, and edge clearance was modeled to AISC and fabricator shop standards. Connection reactions were verified against design calculation sheets.
Setting up steel grid, main columns, transfer girders, and platform framing.
Detailing moment connections, bracing gussets, and anchor bolt setting plans.
Performing automated 3D collision check to verify tool access and bolt tightening clearances.
Automating assembly drawings, single-part sheets, and erection diagrams.
Exporting DSTV NC1 files for beam drilling lines and DXF files for plate burning.
Final Deliverables Provided
- Tekla 3D Master Model (.DB1) and IFC export
- Complete assembly and part fabrication drawing sets (PDF & DWG)
- Erection drawing package with 3D isometric staging diagrams
- DSTV (.NC1) CNC machine files and material cut lists
Project Outcome & Value Delivered
Fabrication proceeded smoothly without a single shop-floor fit-up error, enabling on-time crane erection on site.
